indices definition

In this blog we are going to discuss about indices definition.Also see the given link to know about live indices.
Indices are the Plural form of index. Index is also called the power or the exponent of a number.
When a number or base is multiplied by itself we get the power as the number of times the number or base multiplies with itself is called the Powers, Exponents or the Index.
Examples: -
1) b x b i.e. b squared,
2) b x b x b i.e. b cubed.
The square and cube are called the Power, Exponents or the Index.
We know,
64=2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2= 26
Here, 2 is the base and 6 is the power, exponent or the index.
27=3 x 3x 3=33
Here, 3 is the base and 3 is the power, exponent or the index.
16=4 x 4=42
Here, 4 is the base and 2 is the power, exponent or the index.
We have three laws in the Laws of Indices.
They are: -
1) Product Law
2) Quotient Law
3) Power Law
Next time we will discuss more about this concept.
